Are You A Social Media Superstar?

"Sometimes, when I get nervous, I stick my
hands on the computer and tweet."
I was VERY fortunate to join Mari Smith's Webinar on the "Top 10 Qualities of Social Media Superstars". As always, she offered GREAT value, discussing "what makes certain industry professionals really stand out, get known, get the best deals, and get the big bucks?"

Below is a mashup of Mari's suggestions from the webinar, on the qualities that are needed to be a "Social Media Superstar", as well as my own thoughts:

1. Humility
The most successful "Social Media Superstars" have humility. They do this by keeping they're ego in check.

They recognize the importance of staying centered, and understand that their success is in direct correlation to their followers and audience. They share, retweet, comment, and reply to others in a timely manner.

Some folks (as mentioned by @marismith that demonstrated this humility on Twitter are: @equalman , @ScottMonty, @shashib. I would like to add @jaybaer and @socialmouths to this list as well.

2. Have Passion
Superstars have passion. They "eat, breathe, and sleep" what they do, and not only like what they do, but LOVE it. A great example of someone who demonstrates this is @garyvee . This guy puts his heart and soul into everything he does.

3. Be Inclusive
Another quality of "Social Media Superstars" is that they are not afraid to "treat others as equals and are non competitive in the industry". The don't have an inflated ego, and always understand that the success of other's will translate into their own success. Again, I'd like to mention people. like Fransisco Rosales @socialmouths, Jay Baer @jaybaer, and Mari Smith @marismith.

4. Be Engaging
Great "Social Media Superstars" are engaging. They demonstrate that they genuinely care about others, and not simply themselves. They are responsive to their community, and their true caring nature shines out. Examples: @GuyKawasaki, @Ekaterina, @PamMktgNut. I'd like to include @connectyou, @LeoWid .

5. Deep Niche Knowledge
Superstar's have a strong understanding of their niche markets. I would like to add that I see these individuals as "Thought Leaders" in their niche, leading the way and do much of the trailblazing in the industry. They're always willing to share their knowledge, and are never afraid to answer questions. Mari's Recommendations: @LinkedInExpert , @prsarahevans, @stevegarfield . I would like to add to the list: @AmberCadabra, @markwschaefer

6. Be A Prolific Content Producer and Curator
Great, compelling content is what helps make a "Social Media Superstar". These inspirational people invest much energy to put together exceptional content. Mari's recommendations: @kikolani, @SimplyZesty, @KrishnaDe . I would add to the lists: @briansolis, @jaybaer , @unbounce

7. Always Adding Value
How do "Social Media Superstars" add value to others? By providing insightful, and extremely useful content to their audience. They watch the trends and understand what type of content will bring the most value to others.

In my opinion, the absolute best example of this is the Social Media Examiner . This site is jam packed with valuable and resourceful information, and is recognized as an authority site. The brilliant minds behind it are @Mike_Stelzner and @marismith,

8. 100% Consistency
I will admit, having 100% consistency is extremely challenging, and is something I work hard to attain. Yet, a "Social Media Superstar" manages to remain consistent. They create and curate content regularly , engage daily, are trustworthy, and are reliable. They brand is well represented across all platforms, which makes it easier for others to trust.

9. They Are A True Leader
I've always seen a true leader as someone who "leads the pack", is also willing to follow, and can create movements. They do this by genuinely being open to other's feedback and advice, yet are not afraid to stand their ground on issues or topics that they may not agree on. One "Social Media Superstar" that really comes to my mind is @danzarrella and Seth Godin

10. A Proven Track Record
"Social Media Superstars" have a proven track record. They not only "talk the talk", but also "walk the walk". For aspiring folks who would like to become a superstar, posting testimonials of past clients, writing case studies, and having "social proof" such as the size of your audience can help get you there. (in my opinion)

An ENORMOUS thank you to Mari Smith for the fantastic webinar! If you're serious about becoming a "Social Media Superstar", please go check out her Mentorship Program.
What do you think? Are there other qualities that should be included?
